how is hull depth measured?

can someone tell me how the hull depth is measured? thinking of upgrading to a newer tinny but doing research now so trying to figure out if a new tinny has a deeper hull than my current tinny

I always thought it was measured from inside top of keel to top of gunwhales at highest point of freeboard.
