I just clicked on an add for uw LED's on this forum. The prices are from $289 to $800+. WTF?

I have no clue about underwater lights.
Why have them? Do the attract fish at night? What's the theory? Colours?

Why so expensive? Couldn't you just dangle a waterproofed light over the side?

Please explain

Apparently the green underwater at night attract bulk bait fish, predators follow. Other colours apparently do not fare nearly as well.

some guys in the states use them on party boats for bling.

fishing wise, don't know if they'd help with squid but i thought a dull light was actually better at attracting more squid..

keen to hear what people say, would be handy when scuba diving at night though, usually we dive with a big deck light so you can easily navigate back up and keeps most sharks at bay from my experience.

Expect to pay for quality.Yes they are expensive, offroad ones are the same,$800 for one round spotty.Put a cyalume stick inside a balloon or three and tie that off to the transom,it'll work just as well.Jim

u can only runs the lights when they are submersed so if u drive off and forget there on BYE BYE $200 i reckon just buy the simple waterproof LED strips run 4 lengths of strips on each side of the transom have seen it done before there was a aussie guy selling 2 strips 50cm long each for $50 he had a video on youtube mounting the strips along his transom and outboard leg just above the cavitation plate and he has bait fish swimming around the light

just found this one

I mounted these earlier this year on the transom...fantastic especially for the price which from memory was 35 skins or so for 2 lights. http://www.jarviswalker.com.au/jm-aqua-bright-led-underwater-light-diode-600-lumens-blue.html

Cheers

Very bright blue. My mate has been beside me with his $1800 lights and mine are 80 per cent of his easily. Rate them highly. I have 4 in blue on transom and 2 white as deck lights.

Cheers

Yes mate I posted up photos from memory. Glad you found the thread. Just be careful when mounting not to over tighten the screws. I managed to crack the resin in one of mine. It has had water in it for months but hasn't failed.
