Hi guys jut back from Oz had a great time, fishing, people, weather was all great. I liked it so much we're moving back over [wifes an Aussie been left a long time]

Anyway I have one problem, I've just ordered a new boat. Not much of a problem I know but it poses the dilemma sell it here and take a big hit or ship it over [if its monetarily worth it]

So my question is to you guys what would you expect to pay in dollars for a boat/package like this http://www.warriorboats.co.uk/2012-package-deal-for-warrior-165-with-mercury-60hp

Many thanks for any replies :D

It's a hard call but I think I would thinking about selling it over there. I imagine the cost of getting it over here would offset would you might lose on it. There are plenty of good boats here and a bit of a buyers market at the moment.

I wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand but do definitive sums, ask questions to Warrior, get specific freight quotes and assess the level of risk you are happy with. If you haven't already bought it and can get the VAT off the listed price for export to Aus, that would be about $4.5k and cover a good portion of the freight, Aus GST and taxes. Ballpark figures, you are then looking for comparable boats in Aus around the $26k-$28k mark (at current currency conversion). For a brand new or near new boat package in Aus of the Warrior pedigree, I think you will struggle to get close to advertised used prices (haggling down may get you closer), new prices would be $40k+. The one downside (quite a biggie) is that the Warrior supplied engine may have warranty complications but speak to Warrior and see what they advise. These boats are quality finished and very popular in the UK so they may have specific deals with engine manufacturers.

Consider also the re-sale here. Its unknown here so its going to be hard to sell if the occasion arises. The normal buyer loves a local or well known product.

Sell it abroad and get something local mate.

Good luck in Aus!

If you do decide to import it, you will need to get a import permit for the trailer. No big deal, costs about $50, but you MUST get the permit before the boat/trailer is shipped. his gets the trailer's VIN number into the Transport database so you can register it.

No permit = not let off the wharf by Customs.

For those interested or curious to see how it runs, there are several videos of these boats out there. Type 'Warrior 165' into Youtube search if you want to see the boat being used on the water. Videos for the bigger 'Warrior 175' are also on Youtube.

Hi mate, are you experienced with Warriors? they're by far the better of the British small boats and are very popular. For those interested please take a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCYItW726H4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEx5eXMGqi8

Hi,

I've not been on the water in a Warrior but as you say, they have a huge popularity in the UK and a reputation second to none for small trailercraft. On that basis, while it would be preferable, I wouldn't consider myself to have special requirements to be found outside the normal distribution of other users hence I'd have no issue about ordering one without a water test.

I did visit the impressive Warrior factory about 18 months ago where I was given a factory tour, got in a couple and had a close-up view of them. The customer service was excellent and they really are quality finished boats throughout. Having the boat fitted out to suit the owner is part of the service and they do go to great lengths to have the best setup for the customers situation. Nothing is added which the customer doesn't need. Unfortunately I eventually decided against purchasing because of my circumstances and personal stuff I was undergoing at that time but I'd import the 165 in a minute no problem although the 175 is supposedly (and understandably) better. For me, the 175 would only be feasible if it was a shared purchase.
