Hello All,
I was out yesterday up Jumpinpin way and it was very windy 25-30 knots easy.
My boat is a 4.3m Webster Twinfisher with a very large T-Top.
I was running beam-on in waves about two foot and as the boat rolled on the waves I felt that the wind on the t-top was threatening to push the boat onto its side.
She just didn't come back up as quickly as usual.
Fair enough considering that it was 30 knots on the beam.
If the wind was any stronger I would have taken the canvas off to reduce windage.
Has anyone else had this experience?
I have seen that a lot of North QLD boats have big shade awnings how do they go?

I have heard of one capsizing in the Gulf of Carpentaria about 6 years ago - had a full length targa and was rolled over on the top of a swell with a big gust of wind.

Sounds like they need flaps and ailerons so you can trim for windage. Should go well couples with trim tabs. Of course you might also need a first officer to operate the extra controls and throttle and leave the captain to steer and assist throttle control as needed.

Cheers

PS Operating according to the conditions might be another way to consider?

reckon it would have to be pretty windy to blow you over!! but not impossible I guess.
