It's a Southern Silver Drummer, Kyphosus sydneyanus. Did you spear them?

no offence mate, but you really shouldn't be spearing fish you can't identify in case they turn out to be a no take species or an undersize fish. i imagine speared fish wouldn't generally release too well. how about shooting those you dont recognise with a camera instead and going back for them with the spear the next time?

Yeah fair call I understand how it may look, however the two silver drummer I thought were luderick as I was diving down, was low vis in the surf and from above I couldn't see a difference - they were schooling up pretty thick and my shot went through the spine of the first one and snagged the stomach of the second. The other fish I thought was a little perch - but have doubts after holding it. As you said mate they don't release too well after they've been speared so I added them to the bag - took home a good mix of other fish a nice jack in there which made my day. Has been a while since I got a decent shot on a jack.

Dont be too hard on yourself Marty. Silver drummer are easily mistaken for the Fast Antarctic Roaming Tilapia. More commonly known by their acronym!

The other one looks like a slatey/blubber lips bream/thicklip, some people call them mother in law fish, some people think they're good on the chew, you decide!
