I've looked at a few half cabin boats, but often find that when the price sounds good, the rig is quite underpowered. Your thoughts?

i personally recon the yalta's are value for money in that size new... but i agree some are underpowered to meet a price bracket, but at the end of the day if your happy with what you buy then thats all what matters...

Something 2nd hand and put a new 4 stroke on it and an alloy trailer under it for years of trouble free boat, well to a certain extent anyway.

Out of curiosity which brands don't usually include the bowsprit in their measurements?

look to the USA and see what prices there now.

YEp something from the States will be better value for money- just so cheap for what you get.

I also have the Yalta 555. They were originally only measured at boat length hence the 555 but are 6m overall including the pod and bowsprit. Now that model is called a fisherman2000 I think reflecting the 20ft (6m) measurement? They are a good thing for the money but seeing what some guys get from the states ,as mentioned above, I would be looking there.

I know I voted for the Yalta's but then I found this.

A lot of boat for that money.

Ozy I agree 100%...but because it sneaks over that 2.5 metre width, it restricts the trailering of the boat over certain times of the year......for example this Christmas period and other holiday periods. If it was 2.5m in width or less I wouldn't hesitate.

Our Caribbean Reef Runner is 6.3 inc bow sprite, so would be in your size range. As to whether you consider them value, that's your call.

Have a look here http://www.stkildaboatsales.com.au/boats-for-sale/details.html?boat_id=306

We bought for specific features, and within a budget, they are a good offshore hull, and have a good layout for reef fishing. Bait tanks either side, and the transom allows fishing around the outboard without too much of a stretch.

There are compromises, limited space for rod holders, old school styling, basic features and limited space for electronics.

Don't know what you banana benders think of screens and hardtop, but getting home dry is up there on the list in Sth coast NSW.

That is the one downside to the bigger american boats.

When I was looking for a new boat a year or 2 ago I thought the Tournament boats were really good value. I ended up with a 2100WA version but was very close to getting a 1900. Maybe they are worth a look, made in Qld and I think were biggest selling glass boat for the last couple of years?

ps am really happy with the 2100 it suits my needs perfectly....:)

are those yaltas foam filled hull, fibreglass stringers? think the tournament have 10yr warranty, SST seat Frames, SST rocket launcher, 210l fuel tank, i'm 6'2 and can lay down in the 2100wa so it appealed to me, even though I'm not in the market for a boat can't help seeing whats value out there anyway! be worh comparing both boats standard featrues, on the website the 2100 has standard hydraulic steer too

I paid around 15K less for a Tournament 1800 (I know it's just under what your looking for at 5.65m but...) w/ stainless Bimini, full clears and storm cover, Etec115 which pushes it nicely and very economically, Garmin 750S plus loads more. Loads of fishing room, very stable offshore and with the ability to drive off/on its a breeze to handle solo if needed.

Have a look at the Tournament range in your research.

I'm 6'3" and tried the bunks in both the 2100wa and the 1900. Personally, I found the 1900 more spacious. It feels like a bigger boat all round to me. Both nice rigs for sure!

Correct me if Im wrong but it has the trailer listed as an optional extra. Does this package come with a trailer or not? No mention of it at all aside from the optional extras. Perhaps a web site stuff up but they would want to get it rectified.

even though they are a "tin" boat, I had a good look at the new Stacer Ocean ranger the other day, they are 6. point something long, seemed pretty good value to me, fitted with a Honda it was well under 70 grand with a heap of "goodies"

A tin can for under 70k? Not value in my book but then again I dont think any pressed ali boat is good value- way over priced IMO.

Brett

Disagree given the big drop in price since its not at Crawfords and like anything these days whats paid to get it wont be the asking price. Bloody fine craft IMHO, Lindsay kept one and some Victorys for here and Fiji when he sold. There was a reason for that.

hey chimo,

i totally agree they were bloody great boats, i nearly bought a vag at tweed coast with twin 115's, i still love the seafarers. but i still cant get my head around the price of the new boats these days its friggin stupid, i can still remeber
the days when you could buy a 680 haines for 48k.
so i just believe that the yalta is great value for money and locally built, sure there could be a lot different and better boats to buy, but when i can get a boat at least 10-15k cheaper than anything elese in its size and is still made here i will go for it. imho

cheers
