hi there only very new to the game this may sound silly to some but me it will b very helpfull was wondering after putting chain on my anchor how much rope is the legal limit cheers

50mtrs in the N/T......but that is really a minimum.......you may need 10 times that depending on the depth you plan anchoring in........check your local boating legislation's/guidelines.

Im not sure but arn't you supposed to let out three times the depth, so if your in 3m of water you let out 9m??

That is a reccomendation for safe anchoring. For fishing, you let out the minimum rope that will hold the bottom to hold your spot. Let out more rope for overnight. Let out too much and you might find the chain wrapped around a bommie in the morning.

Larger cruising boats work on around five times the depth (over-nighting), if the swing will allow it. If you are expecting a gale, even seven times the depth.
