Does anybody own one of the new Ecooda range of spin reels? hearing only good things about them. They seem like a pretty good all round cheap spin reel.

Hi king, me and my brother just bought one each on our recent trip to airlie beach, got the chronic 3000, we caught an arrangement of barra, grunter and cod on them, also took it offshore and tested it against a cobia, I am happy with them, setting us back $139 each, smooth drag and actually can't pick anything wrong with them, I also use a shamano stratic 3000 CI4 ($300 from tackle world at the time) honestly I wouldn't pick one over the other there both very good reels, anyways hope this helps out mate, I know I'm a bit late but better late than never,

Cheers

Not really as I'm looking for a reel in the bigger range and it was mentioned from the tackle guy to look at the ecooda bit about $350 for the 1 I was looking at.

I was just looking at the range earlier today, here a link to the 6000 http://www.anglerswarehouse.com.au/product_detail.asp?productnospaces=ecooda_hornet_h s-6000_8112
I don't what they r like but they r only $200 or u could get the 20000 for $220...
Hope that helps mate, and I always compare prices online I have found some stores charge $40-60 more for the exact same reel,

I'm running 20lb braid on mine, and its capacity is pretty big it only says 0.33 will give u 130m I reckon it would nearly run a full 300yd spool on it and I has up to a 10kg drag, I think it's an great little reel...

Lucee depending on what your using it for is about the only thing that limits you, the 20000 has a drag of 30kgs and plenty of line capacity and like I said buy online and u can pick it up for about $210, and it should stop the biggest of Gt...

Cheers mate will look at it again when I get gone and for the sake of a couple of dollars I will probably just buy it from the shop and get them to spool it etc.

Guys you also need to ask if parts are readily avail for these reels..

Haha your on to it there, I have always spooled my own reels until recently so much easier getting them to do it!

Hey rodman, I have no idea what getting parts is like for any reels let alone these ones, I take good care of my gear and have never had the need for spare parts (fingers crossed) but if get 5 years out of a reel I'm happy especially if it cost me only $100, we live in a throw away world unfortunately, and sometime parts cost more than what they are worth and u might as well buy a new one IMO anyways...

I'm not 100% sure as I don't have the box with me ATM, but I think it has a 5yr warranty on it,

There's only one type of warranty with these budget items - REPLACEMENT WARRANTY.
That's exactly what I was offered when my locally purchased Ecooda failed on the first fish. I decided to chip in a few more notes for a shimano replacement.
I'm not bagging Ecooda -Just make sure you buy from a good local tackle shop.

When I bought the Ecooda, the braid cost more than the reel.......

Hi Dantren, I think u might be paying to much for your braid???

I know I'm promoting the $139 Ecooda chronic 3000 a lot but this is only because in my experience with the reel, it has the quality and has preformed just as good as my $300 shimano stratic CI4 3000, it all comes down to the $ u have in your budget...

As for warrant if u read the small print for you shimano and its 10yr warranty, it's not worth the paper it's written on if u not not 110% matriculusly clean and wash your reel after every use...

I won't knock shimanos over all quantity as 90% of my gear is shimano, but it can be more expensive, especially for someone who can't convince the Missis to let them spend an extra money on yet another fishing reel, haha

Cheers
Brenden

Mate if you get 5 years then great as most reel suppliers do not normally keep parts for reels 5years old unless they are a popular model

For a Abu 5000 that's 7 years old and works perfectly.

In all honesty I have only ever had one reel break on me and that was a shit javis walker rod reel combo worth about $50 I used to catch sharks for 3 years, burnt the reel out fighting a 10ft bronzey, it seized the drag and after that it was useless, so throw it away...
