Hi all,

silly question but does a petrol saltwater cooled mercruiser have engine coolant?

there is a blue cap labelled coolant but I cant figure out how to measure it as everytime i open the blue lid stuff (water or coolant) comes out the bottom?

Any mercruiser experts out there?

I don't have a v8 but my v6 is salt water cooled and there is no coolant but there are valves for releasing water from the engine block. I guess if I opened one of the other blue valves without opening the main drain valve I would get water coming out.

Hi, I have a Merc V8 in mine which runs a heat exchanger in the front of the motor and under the air intake which is then cooled by sea water, the heat exchanger has a reservoir on the left side of the motor which contains the coolant, don't know if this helps or not.

Cheers

Ed.
