Hey Lee560, I just had the bottom of my hull re-gelcoated after removal of antifoul. It came up great! Well worth it. Made the boat look new again. Cheers

How did they do it? Did they grind or just sand back the old gelcoat and just spray new on?
I know blokes doing epoxy jobs and referring to it as re-gelcoating but didn't realise anyone was actually still doing it.
Have seen yachts with osmosis cut back with a special plane and then sealed, epoxy faired and then re-gelcoated but that is a massive job with a lot of time drying out the glass substrate.

After i had the antifoul sodablasted off there was nothing to sand. The photo above of the boat being lifted is how and when the antifoul was sodablasted off. The hull had a few minor gelcoat repairs ( small chips) and was then resprayed. The finish is not perfectly smooth as it is when new but if you want to be that fussy a light sand and polish would bring that result. I tried a small test patch and it would come up just the same as new, however i wont be doing that because the finish is that good now i realy cant see the point for the work envolved. Cheers

Hey Rodlox, the sodablasting cost me $1200. I was looking at doing it myself but i am glad i did not as the machine would be no where near as good as the guys machine that did it, as well as the mess and noise involved. Cheers

Over here I've been told roughly $6000 to rub back gelcoat and then rub back smooth for an 18 ft sharkcat hull which I think is ok and better than just painting
