140hp 4 stroke Suzuki

Hi Guys, I'm just a newey here. I need a bit of info about 2nd hand 140hp Suzuki outboards. Is 500 hours a lot of hours for these motors, it's about 5 yrs old and ex Gov? Are they a top motor? Any info much appreciated:-? Jeff

i know of guides up here that have 10 000 or more hours on them and never been flushed with fresh water - so no, not really alot of hours..

biggest thing is if it was moored in the water or not...if it was the trim unit might be about stuffed and these are exspensive to replace..i know.. the cat i got had them on it i done a trim unit..now have 2 new 140hp suzukies...good outboard reliable and give good fuel economy

Yes the hours are not high by any means, but you need to consider the environment it has been in and any corrosion issues.

Post 2009 they should be fine once they went to billeted aluminium heads. They can have the exhaust leak as well. There is a thread on that here somewhere as well.
