G’day,
Putting a Df140 on my 5.4m Sea Jay – just wondering on what peoples experiences have been with similar ~5.5m combos with Suzuki DF140’s?
What props are you running/WOT speeds/cruising, fuel economy, etc.

Currently get approx. 2km/l cruising and 60kph WOT (although definitely not at 2km/l…… ) with a carby Honda BF90 (2005 model).

Hi

On my Surtees 5.5 I have the DF115 and get about 2.3km/litre at cruise speed about 4500rpm/45 km/hr, sometimes a bit better, and 65km/hr at 6200rpm.

Suzuki 20" 3 blade SS prop. Very good props, better than Solas.

I wouldn't expect miracles re top speed, the plate and alloy hulls just aren't fast hulls. Expect around 65km/hr or maybe a bit more.

Also, are you aware that there is a new even more fuel efficient (14% better according to Suzuki) Suzuki 140 due out within the next couple of months?

Might be worth waiting, or trying to negotiate a better deal if you are getting the current model.

You might also consider getting the Garmin GMI10 digital display gauges instead of the standard analogue ones, they have been doing deals on that at boat shows lately. Very nice bits of gear and the NMEA 2000 connection to the engine gives you instant engine data and fuel flow, mpg and fuel used/remaining.

Cheers

Running a Suzie SS 14x20 on a 5mtr Origin getting around 35kts wot will 200ltrs of fuel and 3 up.....roughly 2k to the ltr or a bit better..........Engine is relly not run in yet though with only 30 odd hrs up.....it will hit 37kts with the 14x21 alloy and river cruise at 27kts @4500rpm for 25 per hr with a full load.If ya zoom in on the pic you will see some familiar water........you may also see the GMI's at work..........they are brilliant..........but in saying that they are expensive aswell........i was lucky to get mine as a boat show deal for nicks.

If you didn't already know, suzuki were upgrading their 90, 100, 115 and 140 to the latest model in October with a new look and their "lean burn" technology at the same price. That's what the suzuki guys said and the Sydney boat show last month, they said the new technology get another 20% better fuel + more low end grunt. They have been upgrading all of their models and these are the last ones.
I just had a look on the suzuki web site and they have the new motors on there. Don't know if their in the store yet but if your shopping you should ask the question.

Hi SF, not an alloy hull i know but on an old signature 5.5m with a 2012 suzi 140 i get approx 2-2.2 ks per litre spinning a merc trophy plus 13.75x20p prop. i agree with moonlighter completely re solas props - i tried 2 diff ones and ditched them for the mercury one with a hub kit to suit.

top speed with 2 POB and gear with 150l fuel and the bimini up is now up to 72 kmh so far and it seems to be getting better with more hours i put on. only 50 hours so far.

definately get the gmi 10s with it ( they will deal outside of boat shows too;)) as the info is awesome and you can customise endlessly to suit. the 90hp honda seems to be doing well on your boat already.

cheers ryan

yes the BF90a has been an awesome motor, just a bit slow, would prefer to around the 70kph+ range for the long runs down our big rivers here.
hopefully the DF140 gets me the extra 10kph I want with its extra 50hp :)
