I have been having a bit of a problem with my Yammie 2st Tilt/Trim mechanism where at times it has made some loud noises when being operated under pressure. Any idea of what is causing this issue?

What engine/year/hp

Most likely low of fluid which will be due to a seal leaking....look carefully for a leak

The sound is like a click or knock.
Gary, no sign of any fluid leak. Its a 2006 90hp 2 stroke 90AETO I think from memory

Does it sound similar to the squel or click you get when you apply trim but it's all the way in or out or on the latch?

I can't recall that sound. I know the sound of the tilt at max trim and its not that

Grease your tilt tube and if that doesn't fix drizzle some oil on the top knuckle of your tilt ram.

When you're trimmed down the ram is covered in oil Crunchy and greasing the tilt tube is the way to go, that's what the grease nipples are for.

Every motor I've had with the knock knock noise has been the the nylon bush at the top of the trim ram.
Short of pulling it apart I've found dripping a little oil down the sides of it is enough to shut it up.

G'day Horse
All good suggestions above. I have had an occasional graunch/clunk noise which was just lack of grease on the end of the trim piston rods where they slide on the small blocks on the leg.

Cheers

I had a better look today and its definitly when it trims down and starts to push the two piston rods in. I had previously hit them with lithium grease. It looks like it has gone very hard in contact with water and may be the issue. The piston rods seem very dry.

grease the end of the trim rams and stop the metal to metal contact as this is common and very noisy when they are dry.

I have done that and cleaned all of the old lithium grease cement off the seals and given everything a good dose of inox grease. It sounds good now
