I keep hearing how cheap it is to build/buy aluminium trailers from the US, has anyone actually imported just a trailer?
If so, what information did you need to supply, assuming it wasn't for a US boat, and was it worth it, $$ wise?

Thanks,
Scott.

have to cut off the tow hitch and call it a cradle for starters. I think tyres are different ratings.other than that seems easy

Hi Scott,
There are a couple of different things, some manufactures offer an Australian Version, The biggest thing you need to look at is the width must be under 2.5m (most American trailers are up to 2.6m)
You will need an import permit
Check that the Hitch is Aus compliant stamped with AS 4177.3 and the relevant detail I think it is. Otherwise you will need change this
You will need to change the lights (rear and side clearance) unless you get one with the right lights
You will need to change the trailer plug
Shipping cost of just a trailer will probably make it not really worth it
New American trailers make alot of sense when you are already paying to import a boat
I would check out Peterson Trailers (Alloy imported by Portsea Marine)

Cheers
Ben
