Was checking these engines out. Got very latest version of EFI. Look fantastic but are expensive like everything else in this world. Anyone got one? Thinking about putting one on a 4.55m SeaJay Territory if i can make my budget go that far. Any feedback re the engine and matching to boat would be appreciated.

Cheers

On the sea jay, go the 50 hp. I Got the 50 on my seajay 455 and wish I had a 60 but not allowed. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the 50 but I always want bit bigger.

When coming back across bay, on a good day , I have mine flat out doing around the 55 kph mark and I have a permatrim on outboard which I feel loses little top end speed, but really need it when doing 5 -10 knots.

yeah cheers mate. i might just do that at some stage. thanks for the offer. re 40 or 50hp - My budget only stretches so far unfort. I will get prices for the fifties and see. The yamaha are a little heavy is my only concern. A 50hp on a 4.55 would be a bit arse heavy?

50HP for 4.55 Metre. My father has the 30HP on his 4.2metre Tabs. The 50HP is a detuned 60HP with much more grunt. I have the 60HP. Perhaps the 40HP Honda would be better?

If budget is an issue go the 50hp 2 stroke yamaha, very nice motor - I had one.

I honestly feel 50hp (in 4 stroke) is not enough on the 4.55, I ended up pulling a 70 hour/12 month old 50hp yamaha off my 4.55 territory out of frustration and putting the new 70hp on - night and day. IMO the 50 even 1 up was well underpowered, and the lower displacement in the 40 would make for an awful experience.

You are right the 50 is as heavy as you would want on a 4.55 sea jay, the 2 storke is far lighter.

Certainly I think had I gone the 50 2 stroke yamaha (3 Cylinder, PTT & Oil Injection) I probably would not have changed to the F70. Having had this motor on my old boat it is one nice motor for a 2 stroke, at cruise I think it is about the same noise level as I have now, fuel economy was pretty good and with the oil injection & good oil you get bugger all smoke. Honestly if it were me there is no way in the world I would go the 40 4 stroke over the yamaha 2 stroke.

As I said the 50 yammy 4 st is fantastic. Not heavy in arse. No worse than any other tinnie with its nose up in the air and slow speed. I only want bigger to go faster

ok with the yamaha the 50, 60 and 70 are all the same bore and stroke 65x75 and displacement of 996
40hp 99-104kg
50hp 113-118kg
60hp 113-118kg
70hp 119-123kg

i had a 50 yammie 4 stroke on a 4.55 Seajay Territory, great combo, you wouldnt go wrong with that

The other point is that you need enough power to cruiser in the sub 5000RPM area of the rev range otherwise you fuel economy advantage is gone.

I've got a 40 yammi 4trk on my 4.4 seajay 'escape sports' sc and I'd go a 50 if i did it again. Not that Im unhappy with the 40 - but the 10 extra horses would have been nice in retrospect. Def go the 50 on the 455 if you can mate.

Ive got one on my 429 rampage, fantastic motor, some nice bells and whistles, fuel economy is awesome, trolling at idle for 0.7l per hour, cruise at 4000 rpm for 6l per hour (mid 30kph) and whisper quiet. With myself, Mrs and 2 kids on board plus gear, I wouldnt have anything smaller than the 40 though, so with the extra weight of the rig you are looking at, I would also consider the 50.
