Just for those who are interested in these engines I have a couple of vids here Of my 175 Opti. Ekka Wednesday me and the missus spent the day on the bay we were running at cruise speed which was from 3500 to 4000rpm fuel usage was 1.0ltrph on the Smart craft guages as much as I like the 4 strokes I still love that Merc 2 stroke noise I get very little smoke and next to no smell will be hard to convert to a 4 stroke when the time comes to.:)

They are great motors the Opti's, has a 200 on my last rig, went like a cut snake, don't miss the noise though.:P
I think you made a bit of a blue with the 1 ltph hour, I would think it would be achieving about 2km/ltr on that boat or there abouts.
Your's looks like it could go up a hole I recon.
Thanks for the vid

Thanks VC I went out to have a look at the guages but they have reset themselves I think I will get a vid of the fuel usage PH when I go out next. When I put it in for it,s service I will talk to them about the height of the engine to. Cheers mate. I did get a pic of this but how good would it be to get this fuel consumption on our boats haha.:)

I know the feeling Fisho.Have you scrolled through the selections and seen the averages screen? it should show you the Ltrs/Nm or Klm for that trip.Mine don't reset I have to clear the screens manually.Maybe there is a selection in the calibration setup???Looking at the footage I agree with VS looks like a hole adjustment. Thanks for sharing.Jim
Nice .. been thinking about an opti myself. How do you find the smart craft gauges ? were they difficult to set up?

That's awesome fuel economy.....you'd only have to fill it up once a year!!!:o

1.8l/minute at a steady cruise........and lets not factor in the price of the oil.

Mate they are a very handy thing to have and are relativly easy to use. Mine were already set up when I bought the boat but I would recommend anyone who is looking at buying one of these engines to invest in them.:)

I reckon we should have a thread dedicated to this as there is so many questions asked on this forum about differant makes of boat engines. If everyone put a vid up of their engines in action it may help anyone who has any questions or is looking at that brand of motor see one in action I guess you have youtube aswell but alot of the stuff you see on youtube in regards to boat engine's is OS.

how much fuel did you use the day you were out in the bay in total?? and how far did you go ?? that is a very economical engine.

CR I went from Scarbrough Marina to Mud Island and back through Wody Point and along the Peninsula back to Scarbrough I had 190ltrs of fuel on board and now have 171ltrs so all up I had used 19ltrs in fuel for the day out. I am also using 95 octane fuel aswell.:)

My Opti gets if I can recall correctly about 2.8 to 3 km to the litre cruising at 4000-4200 in a heavy 5 metre boat one up;according to the Smartcraft gauges. I would imagine a larger boat with a 175 Opti would get anywhere between 1-2 km per litre. I may stand corrected. And let's not factor in the price of oil...

They were taken on our phones Swanie and yeah the wind noise is a pain but unavoidable in some cases I guess.

Yeah the oil is the killer I guess mate you save in 1 area but it costs you in others part and parcel of owning a 2 stroke I guess. I pay $44.00 a bottle for my oil and my oil tank is 11ltrs.

Morning Gents
I have the 175 opti as well pushing the attached boat.... thought i may as well chuck in my 2 cents worth.
smart craft gauges are fantastic, haven't seen or used any other outboard makes equivelant so can't comment on whether smart craft is any better or not but i find them brilliant... every trip i am utilising the following... overall fuel usage for the trip, live liters per km, trim angle, water pressure (great tool for monitoring your impellor, get a baseine pressure from your new impellor and watch for pressure drop as an indiaction of wearing) battery voltage ... these are just the features i'll flick through whilst on a trip.... this also includes all the warning indicators you have...
i find myself constantly playing with trim angle, rpm and ltrs per km to make sure i'm getting the best out of it... actually becomes somewhat of a game trying to get it just that bit better...haha
Last trip out i left fishermans island and headed outside cape moreton for the night then back again.. round trip was 165km for 98 liters of fuel... i was quite happy with this as i was sitting on about 4900rpm most of the way across the bay in the arvo to try and beat the sunset...
General figures i find are i can generally get as a worse case 1.5km per liter.... best around 2km per liter... the above trip was in between...
Generall speaking i'll have 4 people on board plus the associated esky / ice / beer / bait.
I don't find the oil an issue but thats just me.... atm i probly spend 240 a year on oil so for mine the enjoyment i get out of it far out weighs the cost.
servicing is a bit exy but in saying that everytime i get it serviced i get the impellor changed out which i believe is only suppose to be done on the 100hr service..... again as per above the cost of it all is of no big issue to me as it is out weighed but the enhoyment of it all and also knowing i've got a reliable toy sitting there waiting for me at a minutes notice..haha
Thats about it for my blurb... oh and i've never owned or been in a boat with a big four stroke so i really have nothing to compare it to other then i know it's better then any other 2 stroke i've had anything to do with..
anyway as i said just thought i'd add my 2 cents worth.
Cheers
Jared

So some of you are getting 1.6ltrph at WOT and some are getting between 1ltrph and 1.5km/L......
Is someone getting their units of measurement mixed up e.g ltrph Liters per Hour and Km/L Kilometers per Liter?
Either that or the boat is doing 1.6 Kilometers per Hour at WOT:-?

I think Fisho8 is mistaking LPH with KM/PL. Or vice versa? Now I,m confused:-?:D

Rough clac has his trip at about 60km for i think he said about 20ltrs..... so neither really makes sense.. maybe it's his overall avg kms / per ltr, if it's not been reset at any point then it might be the average since the outoard has been on the boat.
only thing i can think of.

I think I am Lump if you look at the pic of my guage I put up it reads LPH but I could be mistaken it mey also be interpreted as LP/KM I am not sure. One thing I am sure of is that reads anywhere between 1.0-1.2 depending on revs.

That is what the fuel guage had read after my trip it gave the indication that I had used that amount of fuel as I do check before I leave and when I get back. Does anyone here think I need to get my guages checked or recalibrated at all???.

G'day Fisho, what may be happening here with your LPH figure is it might be working it out over the total of fuel used.As i say it might be,so if you clear the total of fuel used by pressing the Mode and the Troll - simultaneously to bring it back to zero you may find a better reading.
But in saying that,it is reading fuel flow and should be giving you what it is designed to do and give you either LPH or GPH irrespective of what the total fuel used is.I used to keep mine but ditched it.As a comparison, going to Tangalooma from Manly return is approximately 40 odd Nm and I would use around 42ltrs with 4 onboard and a cruise speed of around 25knts.Jim

Smartcraft will give you both ltrs per hour ( mine uses about 1.4 lph at 600 rpm) and miles per LT, you can also change it to show you miles per gallon if you wish . On my Trophy with 3.0lt 200 Opti I average .9 mile per lt, at best I'll av 1 mile per lit at worse .8 m per lit , these are normal miles not nautical miles and the boat would be around the 2600 kg on the water. At trolling speeds at around 8 knts she will do about .6 to .7 m per lt, depending on the sea.
i love my optis ,they are great on fuel .and fairly cheap overall to maintain .heres a couple of pics of the vessel view at troll and 40 mph cruise with lph

That is one thing I like about them Opti the 100hr service will cost me $480 plus parts which will be impella filters and oil so all up with the parts will be about $550-580 thereabouts.
Yeah that's about right , the water pumps and fuel pumps and spark plugs are all good for 300 hrs , which is around 12 months for me . I just do gear oil every 50 hrs and grease that's it . They vertually just run on the compressor at low rpm, I just which they were a little quieter

Yeah Opti I think as the develop the DI 2 strokes more they will do something about the exaust outlets on them. BTW I read the article in TB Mag on Your formula great stuff mate she look awsome and got a good review.:)
