Given games fever it is hard to choose between going fishing and wathching some of the Olympic events (particularly beach volleyball). So, if fishing were an olympic event we could have our cake and eat it tooo so to speak!! So I vote yes!! ;D;D

Not a hope in hell mate. It would never get past a name like The Festival of Frolicking Fisherman Comedy Games with the likes of the Ausfish members.::)::):P:P:-[:-[

Was only talking about this the other day. They already have "sports" like shooting and horse riding, so why not! C'mon, riding horses and firing guns, they're not athletes.

Maybe the Olympic Committee would have to include breathalyser tests as well as drug tests. Now put your hands up.

I reckon they might as well have fishing too, there is just about every other thing you can think of, bloody BMX bikes and stuff like that, to my way of thinking, the Olympics are more or less old style sports, things that have gone on for centuries, like, swimming, weightlifting, track and field, kind of one on one, personal duels (if you get what I mean) I didn't do all that well in history at school, but for the life of me, I can't ever remember seeing an ancient Roman on a BMX or using a shotgun.

Can you believe this .....
Motorboating (also called Powerboating or Water Motor sports) was an official sport only once at the Olympic Games, in 1908 (it was also a demonstration sport in 1900). In 1908 there were three categories - the eight-meter, 60-foot and open class. The event, sprictly for men, involved racing five laps (or 40 nautical miles) around a specific course. Speeds were not impressive by today's standards: average speeds were around the 19mph mark. It was not a great spectator sport either, with the action taking place off Southampton, where virtually no one could see the action. Due to bad weather, six out of the nine scheduled races were cancelled. No wonder we never saw this event again at the Olympic Games.
:)

and this is halarious

Don't get me started on what should and shouldn't be in the Olympics... too late.... here I go...
I flew to NZ with my sister last weekend and the whole flight (and the following 3 days), to annoy her, I droned on and on about what a farce the O; Olympics has become.
The conclusion was that "Faster, Stronger, Further" Should be the motto.... only events in which:
a: the olympics is the pinnacle of that sport
b: A world record can be set
c: opinion or judgement does not effect the end result

If an event can tick all of those boxes then it shall be allowed at my olympics..... so....

Archery... gone (unless it's who can hit a bulls-eye from furthest away
Badminton.... gone - no WR
Basketball... gone - no WR

This is going to take forever... so I'll summarise..

Pretty much everything is GONE.... except for track and field events.
In the pool there is only Swimming races, and who can hold their breath the longest!.... diving, syncronised ANYTHING is sooo gone. I think to utilise the diving platforms, there will be a biggest Bomb competition with the gold going to the highest splash.
Equestrian will be gone, however it will be replaced with horse racing.
All team sports are GONE, with the exception of cycling in the velodrome and team rowing/K1.
Fishing may be included, with a tourney similar to the Bream one I've seen on the telly.
A new EATING event will be introduced like those hot dog comps those crazy yanks have.
Unfortunately Boxing is also GONE.... unless it is to the knockout.
The WHOLE winter Olympics is GONE!!!! however a waterski jump event will take the place of the entire Winter games.

Any further questions???

Told ya not to get me started :/

some pretty fare comments there, no world record, then no event, I reckon you should have to compete naked as well, so your "suit" will not be an advatage, I reckon the backstroke would certainly make a comeback if done naked!

I had considered that option Noelm...... but then thought of the Hammer throw and shot put.

I say yes. Along with surfing, golf, league, union and cricket, honestly some of the sports at the olympics are a joke.

Classic Choppa, but who would they represent? Indonesia or Christmas Island?
p.s The London climate has ruined my love of the olympics - Womens Beach Volleyball should not be played in skins/leggins or long sleeve shirts.

The mens hurdles could be dangerous for the competitors!

why is McDonalds the Official Restaurant of the London Olympics???

Noelm
01-08-2012, 01:46 PM
I guess because it is a world wide recognised brand, would not make a lot of sense to have your local chip shop as the major/official restaurant (well I reckon) the naked hurdles would be a pretty intersting event, I bet all the men would clear the hurdle by a very large margin, especially if they put spikes on the top!! what about we have the "all comers open" olympics, drug cheats whatever can compete, even giving a fellow competitor an elbow to the face would be OK, that way, clearly the best person wins, or even in (say) the cycling, all competitors are given a Speedwell back pedal brake bike, and they have to wear sandshoes, so they all have an equal chance, no equipment would give them an edge, damn olympics, and what about channel 9 coverage, the only sport to be televised is the swimming, followed by the swimming, then a replay of the swimming, with that dipstick Ray "rabbit" Warren as comentator, and Eddie Mcquire poking his head up at every chance, and then there's the "talking head" Ken Sutcliff, never played sport in his life, but somehow his head appears at State of Origin, Grand Finals, Winbledon, the Olympics and anywhere else that looks intersting for a free ride! Jesus I must be getting old and whingy. time for my nana nap.

"Restaurant" being a very loose definition of the word; also known as "Chew and Spew".

Disqualified- forms not submitted.

Fishing for the olympics hey? Imagine the bore fest of watching 120 teams sitting along the Thames for 2 weeks with the 12cm Carp taking Gold with the Silver and Bronze shared equally amongst the other teams because no other fish were caught.

Great post. Of course each country would be a "team" of two paddling or kicking in the same Kayak and the record would be the most Kg/cm of the target species.
