Hey guys I own a 30HP 2 Stroke Tohatsu which I had serviced around 4 months ago. Have taken the boat out twice since then and have had no problems. I noticed today where the oil sump is down in front of the prop there is a black oil leaking out of a hole next to the sump plug. I have attached a pic so you can see what I mean. I am just wondering if I should be worried about this or what it is? Thanks for any help 8-)

It appears to be unburnt engine oil (2 stroke) coming from the through prop exhaust and if so it is normal..........if the engine was only recently serviced and hardly used that oil looks to be too black to be gear oil..........smell it if it's a sweet sickly smell it's gear oil and you have a problem.........if it smells like your pre-mix then alls good,

I agree with unburnt two stroke oil, Probably too rich a mixture or not revving it enough or a bit of both
Check the oil mix is right and take it out and give a good run at high revs, The Tohatsu will love you for it ;D

I used to have an 05 15hp tohatsu, being as I didnt like to run it over half throttle I used to get this oil leak you have all the time, just unburnt two stroke as dan and purnong have said, get the revs into it and give it a good flogging and you wont have the trouble, I second purnong as the little tohatsu will love it. two stroke donks love to rev.

poor quality fuel will cause that, cheap fuel or old fuel or low octane. either way you don't have to worry about the service or the engine.
