Well what a night. I paddled out with Clive this arve and we both forgot our tackle. After a snag Clive had to go home for dinner but i hung around for night fall. Nothing was happening when zing double hook up on freight trains. I grabbed the 80lb outfit while the 30 lb got dusted big time. The monster took me into the reef and sat under a rock for a while but i maintained my composure and off he swam again. He came to the surface and i got a look at the beast using my headlamp. Off he went again back down deep. I tried to slow him down as best as i could. After another 30mins of struggling i sunk in the gaff and boy did he go crazy. Even after i tail roped him he tried to pull my yak under. I strained to get him on and contained ready for the paddle in; lucky the swell was small. Back on the beach around 6:30pm and home to fillet the fish. I can't wait to share my catch with my relatives in the next couple of days as they visit. Weighed in accurately at exactly 30kg on the electronic bathroom scales using the pick up technique. Went 1.65cm on the mat. Not my biggest from the yak, but def the biggest i have dared to put on the yak to take home. Had a stingray in his guts and made the freezer look a lot more respectable.

Another quality fish for you mate.Congrats.

Can't help but think it probably would have been easier to tie the yak to the cobe and jump on it's back and paddle the cobe back in.

Just saying.:-?

Carnster, what a monster! And what do you mean "made the freezer look more respectable?" The carbon tax is going to kill you mate as your freezer capacity & electricity must be HUGE to contain all these monsters you keep catching with monotonous regularity.
Top job mate!

Mate if I had that thing come up in the dark and look at itin a head lamp I would think shark! Good sized fish.

I once pulled a jewie to the beach that size and when i lit it up with head lamp even on the beach i took a couple of steps back instinctively so to see similar from a yak i reckon heart beat would increase some.

Well done yet again mate.

You might be using a few carbons in electricity but saving a heap in fuel that's for sure.

Inspired!

wolfed the dinner down, then installed a couple of rod holders in the kayak! Ready for the annual trip to Great Sandy on Sunday...I hear there is croc up there too scared to travel any further south in case it meets up with Carnster!

I'm not sure how many times i've looked at those photos recently, lost count by now. Awesome catch and the fact it was all done from a kayak is mind-boggling
