I dont know what half inch is but it must be massive. I used to have 10mm rope on the stressfree anchor (not in the picture of my boat) however could only fit around 90m on it. I replaced the 10mm anchor rope with I think 6mm trawler rope and I managed to fit like 190m onto the drum. Its strong as and I have never managed to break it even if the anchor is stuck fast (sarca anchor). The roll I bought was 250metres and I think only $90 from gold coast trawler supplies. I went around to whitworths and bias and they didnt know anywhere where I could get a cheap and smaller diameter alternative than the silver anchor rope. my boat is only 5.3m so if a bigger boat and heavier may need a bigger rope.
I would have to confirm diameter rope and cost and where I got it from as I had a mate buy it for me.

What winch?

1/2" nylon suits most of the smaller winches with a gypsy (the wheel with chain pockets and rope teeth).

Half inch is 12mm winch is lewmar and thanks for the advice has anybody heard of a thing called flat rope
