G'day Bob,
We had a sig wave height of 8m, and a max of 14m on the Sydney wave rider last night, so yeah, it wouldn't be out of the question for you to get a 10m wave up there soon.
Cheers,
Myles

thats only on the sets... just a steady 5.5 constant... walk in the park for an ocean liner

I just spent the last week at Byron Bay with the lady. I knew the surf was coming so got up early to check belongil beach (north facing). Flat oat 7 am. At 9 am while having coffee it was draining nice 5 footers on the banks. Went out and walked roud the light house checking the waves. I have seen some big waves in my time but these took the cake (comparable to massive swell winter 2001 i think) . Easy 15 footers breaking well outside the light house. Watched 2 guys on sups paddle for there life. Came back to belongil just as the swell picked up again. 8 Foot drainers on a north facing beach with a south swell. Julian rocks had waves breaking. And 2 days later you had 12+ foot cloudbreak at the volcom fiji pro.

The scary thing about the waves at the Pt Lookout wave rider is that they are so much bigger than the underlying swell. It would be nasty if you were comfortably motoring through a 5-6 metre swell and then encountered a an unexpected 12 metre wave (today 12th) . Southport and Mooloolaba have nowhere near as many random large waves. I bet the waves are peaking even worse where they pass over the Sevens.
