A new 90 2 stroke Yammy is more likely to be around the 10k mark. Yours certainly has'nt done alot of hours (although some may see this as a disadvantage) id recon 5-6k.

Hi Matthew.

When I bought the old Haines in 2007, the seller had just finished a full refirb. Transom, floor, electrics, motor and I got a box full of receipts. Everything from screws to motor.

2003 yamaha 90 2 stroke with 72 hours, purchased from and fitted by Wynnum Marine for $6k.Including controls and gauges.

Oh yeah and while I have you here, as I dont have the required equipment/know how to take the bastard off, how much do you think a boat yard would/should charge to do this?

A lot easier to sell if they can see it running on a boat. They are a good cheap to run motor. Need to find right buyer to get teh premium price .

What has a dealer offered as a trade in value and what price for the new motor?

For the hours you are doing a 4 stroke is a expensive option and you aren't going to save $4 of fuel.

What is your reason you want to upgrade as to get a decent return on a 4 stroke you will need to keep the boat for many years and do a fair few hours .

Yeah I will leave it on the boat untill I get a definate buyer, I want to sell it as it seems to use a shit load of fuel I have a 120l underfloor fuel tank and can burn nearly the whole lot in a day, I bought the boat nearly 3 months ago it had 49 hours on it and it now just just over 100. I haven't had any quotes as yet for it just prodding about 1st to see what I am looking at.

I want to be able to have the range to go out to the shelf (over night trips) from here in Cooktown and not worry about taking extra fuel. The boat is a 5.1 meter plate boat. I also like the idea of having a quiet engine and also not having to worry about 2 stroke oil.

Ideally I would find a 2nd hand 115 4 stroke with under 300 hours on it.

What are your opions?

Cheers for the advice

How many hours are you getting out of the 120l tank?
At what revs?

Mine is pushing a heavy glass v17c (5.2m). At 4k to 4.5k rpm,24 to 27 knots, it usually uses around 19l an hour.
The prop is a Yamaha 17-k with an SE sport 300 wing.

Not to sure how much it burns per hour (running that is) but its a lot more than I expected. Say a typical day I head out about 30k do some trolling and try some different spots then head home, and it could use 100l easy.

I havent had the luxury of taking it out on a nice calm day yet though. With the chop I am on and off the throttle a bit.
