79243Gday can anyone tell me if Savage many years ago ever made a 14ft tinnie that looks very much like a Clark Abalone? I have bought an oldie with no ID except for a Savage Osprey oval metal badge on the rear seat, which looks like it is not original (the seat). The rest of the boat looks very much like an Abalone to me. cheers

The Osprey did kind of look like a Clark, but only kind of, that is, it had clinker sides, was rather "full" in the bow, but that's about where it ends.

There is one way to tell if it is a Clark, when you are on the water do you need a rain coat. If not its not a clark:)
The savge osprey was around 16ft and gannet was around 14ft both had a lot sharper nose then the Clark's.
If you can put a photo up I am sure the forum will identify if for you.

My money is on a Clark, have you got a side shot to put on here, that will confirm it.

mate it is the original clark abalone made at hemmant without doubt
I pro fished out of one for fifteen odd years from Straddy, Moreton, DI, Waddy and Bustard Heads because they could run on low hp carry a ton of spanish and would not broach on a wave when beach launching and retrieving however I reckon I would be 6inches taller if I didn't cop the flogging they give
and by the way savage never made anything that looks even a bit like that

Thanks ifishcq1. That settles it for me! If I can pick your brains/experience further, what minimum power would you suggest for a recreational fisher, mostly two blokes on board? I don't want to cross Moreton Bay every day but would like to on perfect days (say one a year!). Most of the time in much calmer water. Any advice appreciated. cheers

Our 14 ft Abalone went well with a 40 on it :)

40hp would be fine for that boat, I have had up to a 70hp on one (went like a cut cat). Just to give you a little bit of confidence, I may have bagged out the Clark's for being a wet boat but, if I had choose a boat that I had to take out in bad weather it would be a 14 or a 16 ft Clark. I spent a lot time in the in the Gulf and I have a huge amount of confidence in them.

fishing bustard we only had a propped down 25 johno as we never travelled too far when I moved back to Brisbane I put on a 40 and that was perfect
Fallen Angle we used to laugh and reckon that clark should give free raincoats and shockies with every boat like you said I felt safer in a 14ft abalone than just about anything doing upwards of 100 beach launches in a year you know you can get out and back
cheers
