Went to Brisbane on Friday afternoon as my mate & former neighbour Greg (Woody) wanted me to take some things down to Brisbane from his house.
My nephew Michael who is 15 wanted to come along as his Mum is sick in Nambour hospital & he wanted to see her.
It was decided we would spend Saturday at the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show which was at the RNA Showgrounds.
Arrived at Bald Hills where my mate was living about 9pm.
Had reasonably early night ready for a big day.
We drove in on Saturday morning & paid $10 at the showgrounds to park for the whole day.
Paid $15 entry fee & Michael got in for $10 student concession.
I grabbed an event program at the entry & off we went.
First auditorium was full of boats.
Massive sizes to smalls tinnies.
One thing I wanted to do was meet Roothy from 4WD Action at the Waeco Stage & Paul Worsteling from IFISH at the Fishing Expo Stage.
Saw Paul Worsteling from IFISH on stage.
Michael scored a fishing reel & a BCF cap as giveaway prizes.
Paul was signing autographs a bit later near the stage.
I took my Fishntales shirt to be signed.
Michael had his new BCF hat signed.
I bought a baitcaster + rod from a display nearby at a massive dixcounted price.
I have never used one to fish with before.
Not long after I saw Paul Worsteling at a stand nearby & with no crowd took the opportunity to ask an expert for some tips how to use my new rod & reel.
Gave me some tips on what to do & how to use it.
Had some lunch (sausage rolls & beers) at the licenced area.
Michael had a pie + coca-cola.
We sat a a table with an old bushie who told us a few yarns.
About 12:30 Michael & I stood in massive line of people for what seemed hours to meet Roothy & have a bit of a chat.
Got to see him just after 1pm.
Had him sign a stubby cooler & XXXX cap.
Michael had 2 stubby coolers signed for his Mum & Dad.
Later on got a call from my neighbour saying the licenced area had run out of beer & he was going to the Jubilee Hotel in Fortitude Valley.
Had some time so we decided to go for another look around.
Michael & I decided to call it a day about 5:30 & go to pick up Woody.
Gave him a call & he said come for a few beers.
Got there not long after & went inside.
I bought a schooner of beer for myself & a coke for my nephew.
We sat down & Woody told us what had been happening.
Woody said he had been getting free beers while the kegs were being changed.
Woody told us he had recognised Shaun Whale, Editor of Australian 4wd Action ordering at the bar.
Mr Whale sat down for a beer and told Woody he had just missed Roothy.
Woody said Shaun allowed him to drunkenly crap on in his ear about his old truck and boat trailer before he headed off to grab a cab to the airport.
We were all sitting at a table near a window.
I glanced out the window & who did I see standing outside ??
None other than Paul Worsteling from IFISH.
I called out to him to come have a beer.
He said he was on his way to a function inside the hotel.
He came inside for another photo opportunity & a quick chat then went on his way.
I couldn't get the smile off my face for ages.
Had a awesome day.
