If you still have a 121.5 Mhz Epirb lying around then it is really way past time to get rid of it, properly!
Lesson 101
Commercial jets overflying a particular area of Australia detected a 121.5 signal with a Coastwatch aircraft localizing the signal. Police, SES and coastguard narrow it down to an explosives compound and presto a shed full of outdated flares old handed in Epirb's, one of which had deteriorated so badly it was live / transmitting but not actually switched on. How embarising!
Problem solved? Well not really! Lesson 102 is remove the battery and disable these out of date things in the first instance
