View Full Version : welding plastic fuel pump is it possible?

i have a mercury 4 stroke the fuel pump is leaking from a crack as pictured mercury doesnt sell this part alone i have to buy a complete pump for $270 is it possible to get this plastic welded?

You might be able to get it hot air welded, take it to a plastics fabricator and if they can work out what sort of plastic it is made from then, they may be able to weld it, however having said that, their repair bill may be not far off from the price of a new one.

You will chase ya nose around in circles trying to get that repaired, just bite the bullet and get a new one or ring all the wreckers in the phone book to find one

cheers guys parts for these motors are very hard to come by a local dealer wanted $170 for a second hand pump i put out a wanted add on www.findaprt.com.au and a wreckers interstate replied the following morning with a email saying they have a used pump $75 ;D

Does fuel or oil leak out of that crack? If yes then get another one. If it doesnt then grind a shallow V in it and Q Bond it.
