Boats from outside the box

We are all very familure with common place boats like pressed alloy tinnies and deep V glass boats ect, but what boats are out there that streach the design of traditional common place boats ?
Some inovators that I can think of that are still pretty common are Polycraft and Quintrex melenium hulls ect.
What others are there that are as common or not as common ?
How do they perform, and are they realy as good as the makers have us believe?
Where there any lemons that streached the boundries and failed ?
