After a successful outing last week with some mates, and a half decent forecast the call went out early for another run on Sunday.

We chose the Tweed to try an avoid the crowds, and with the tides looking manageable, we were greeted with a flat bar at daybreak.

Trolled from 40m to 220m and picked up 2 blacks, approx 200lb and 350lb. Both fish were hooked in about 160m.

Bloke on the 350lb version keeps high sticking the rod and after being warned it would break, it goes crack, so fought the last 30 mins on 2/3's of a rod!

Cheers

Sure they were blacks not blues??? There hasn't been many Blacks around the GC all season, but the Blues are thick at the moment with one boat going 7-7-1 and another 4-4-3 at the tweed on Sunday. We went 3-3-0 off lookout while a newbie went 10-10-1 there the day before all on blues...

Hey Anthony,

I've only heard of a handful of blacks being caught along the Coast this season, however am sure these 2 were blacks not blues.

We were running 2 x 80's with 80lb and 2 x tld 25's with 50lb and the fish kept taking the lighter lines all day.... don't think we would have had much chance with a decent blue on a tld 25 with 50lb?!?

Cheers
Jim
