The boat hit the water at about 5.30 this morning and crossed the bar very shortly after. After a very quick run we slowed to put out some lures. 1st troll lasted all of 2 min before the sound of braid screaming through guides got our spirits soaring, just what the sleepy crew needed. The sky was getting lighter (we still needed deck lights to see clearly on board) as the 5min fight drew to a close, it was called a Spanish before we saw it, to be surprised by an estimated 12-13kg Yellowfin Tuna joining the boat. He was quickly sedated, secured and relieved of some fluids as the lures went out again. After maybe 10 min the same lure went off again. Again called for a Spaniard and indeed what we got. More trolling, stopping for livies and trolling them, we failed to trouble the scorer. A quick run out to the FAD was called and off we went. A couple of small and medium Mahi Mahi joined the crew, we released about 5-6 more of them, then called it a day. I have pics of the Yellowfin but not permission from the guy who was holding the fish, to post them online. Ill post only if he okays it.

Matty with the Spaniard. Pic taken about an hour after catching, was too dark for nice pics then.

A good size spaniard and the YFT are no jellybeans either - always nice to hook something that gives a good fight.

Thanks for the report - it is a good and informative read.

My mate with the yellowfin. Pity the photographer couldnt get the framing right. 3 other pics taken of same fish are blurred. Cant take em again, it's in several pieces in several fridges across the area by now.

Always with the good questions Tim. I could tell you but then . . . you know the rest. LOL
I'm sure if I asked the same question at the cleaning tables around here, I'd be told "a fishing lure mate".

Australia's most popular/successful lure for targeting/taking mackeral.

I wish I could go out again tomorrow too. Ive a feeling its going to get better for Macks real soon. Being able to travel around between places at 25+ Kts like we did today is nice for a change too.

@ Back in Black, ROFLMFAO. A random expression capture. LOL

Coucho, dirty south of Ballina but clean north, I got to see it from the air today, brown soup spewing out and flowing south on the run out tide.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought Id just add to this one.
We did it again last sunday. Hit the water at 5.30, got out trolling lures again and again we got one YF tuna and one spanish on board by 7.00am. Not the size of last weekends but still a nice feed. YF went guetimate 8kg and mackeral around 8kg as well.
