I enjoy reading this forum and the knowledge the members share, i was thinking hopefully you can help me out here.

Ive inherited an old fibreglass "80s" hull in good nic. Purchased a bargin 50hp yamaha outboard thinking it was a long shaft. However the shaft is 18" the cavitation plate sits about 2 inches above bottom of the transom. I dont want to spend a great deal on this boat as im a "fad man" and this may be a passing phase. Just looking for advise on my options? The way i see it i can...

A. Leave as is
B. Cut down the transom.
C. Sell

you can cut it down no problems but the boat has a transom that height for a reason so i would get a longer shaft outboard

call an outboard wrecker and get em to quote on lengthening the outboard by 5 inches..shouldnt be too bad.. make sure they quote on a cut n weld on the drive shaft and not a replacement... these guys do it and do it well 0755937668

If the yamaha was a bargain, could u sell it for a small profit and buy a long shaft with the cash?

Thanks for the Replys ill ring around couple of wreckers and see what they can do for me. Where in relation to the transom is best for the cavitation plate to sit, my research is telling me anywhere from level with bottom to 2 inches below,
