Hello All ,
I have a zodiac inflatable and am about to purchase either a 4 or 5 hp outboard for my 15 year old daughter to learn to drive in . Is it five hp and under or is 4 hp where a license and registration is not required?
Thanks

Follow the links rocklobster they explain all registration http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Registration/Recreational-ships.aspx required over 4h/p and license http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Licensing/Recreational.aspx over 6h/p hope this helps.

Got a mate with a 6hp on one of those and he reckons it planes with just him in it.
As mentioned, 4hp or over for registration, 6hp or over for licence required in Qld.
Remember if you register it it needs all the required safety equipment.

Generally to have a reverse gear most motors are at least 6hp (smaller you just turn the motor around)

If you dont want it to plane, and dont mind turning the motor round to go backwards, going a 3.5hp means no rego.
