We both asked the question this morning Rob,where was the 2nd place trophy.
Thanks to Wayne and GARMIN NO1 MARINE ELECTRONICS for a top weekend. We persisted in some extreme conditions 30+knots 70km out to get kitty kats first blue, and we did it.
We were also in contention for first place for 8mtrs and under but had that taken away by 15minutes on a count back.
I dont know about the other boys but im a little sore this morning from the constant bashing and holding on for 3 days in 30+knt winds.lol
Good fun though and a good team effort.
Thankyou.
Mick

Nice work boys!!! Glad I decided not to fish it and stayed on dry land. You boys certainly chose some tough weather to get Wayne his first!!

PS: Mick I'll give you a call soon.... Lots been going on...

Well done, I had been trying to catch up with you over the comp to say gday but all the drinking and chatting to other boats got in the way. Herd how excited you guys were over the radio when you said "tag one blue marlin" even we started cheering... the third day we pulled the pin as we had'nt turned a reel for 2 days and the weather only blew harder.Of course the day we didnt go out the blacks decide to turn up. Oh well see you at the Little Ships Comp soon.

Cheers Chris

Few pics from Ryan and Jim's boat I fished on from Ryan's Facebook. First weekend fishing. Is a 1972 233 Haines Hunter Formula that has been in the McKinnon family since 1976 or something. 5th set of motors/motor and 7th refit or something like that. Jim might chime in. Transom had been flat backed and podded one of the previous refits. This time it was all the internals so a new deck, bigger fuel tank, dash and the hard top, all in composites and alloy to keep the weight down plus the repower with the new 300 Yammie 4 banger and new electronics. It comes in at about 2.4T which is awesome for such a big boat that goes well. 44knots with a 17" prop and 5800rpm with full gear aboard. Probably still got a bit more in it and a different prop might see it go better.

Ryan's hoo went 14.8kg for heaviest fish weighed on light tackle. We lost the 60-70kg black after 3 hours in overtime with 1.5hours to get back to the weigh station on 5kg of drag on 8kg at the end.

Good pics Rob,that boat was a credit to the owners and even better knowing how long it had been in there family.
The black looks the goods wieght wise.Cant wait to get back out there amongst them.
Give the bottom fishing a break for a while until April and concentrate on the pelagics.
Call me one night for those marks we discussed.;)

Well done Kitty Kat - a great effort and something to be proud of.

Smithy that is a unique boat - old world along with space age - Galaxy is a good name and a lot of thought in it even the livebait tank - visual and low stress on the bait being cylindrical.

Some great pics there guys and yes a testing sea - this coming weekend looks worse.

hi guys i am the maniac who decided to take on the challenge of rebuilding an old boat to the current standards including positive buoyancy, but i feel the haines hunter formula were the best mono hull ever produced for its size for offshore waters and we proved that in the comp. we enjoyed fishing along side kitty cat and un-reel (opti) out there in some real nasty conditions at times. the crossing of the jumpinpin bar was my highlight in the formula finding the sandbar just inside with my prop. its not shiny anymore but worth the experience instead of punching all the way back to the seaway in 25 plus knots of south east. and thanks to DJ smithy's guidance and help on-board. we had a great time.
regards Jim

And it got funnier every time you heard the skeds.I believe it would of echo"d over the ocean each time he said it. GO GET ANOTHER ONE.
Its a credit to rednut, very impressed and good to meet you.The marks supplied by us for the pinbar were on the money but as i said to smithy we did come back in to the south a little. In the conditions it would of been hard to see the shallow areas though.Well done.

good to meet you jim ,your boat looks fantastic, top effort all round, and great performance from the single 300 yamaha,i was wishing i had your hardtop and windscreen on the weekend,i certainly tested the water proofing on my electronics, the 233 handled the conditions better than i did.
