I think the story is that it was a prototype.

I think the story is that it was a prototype.
Or there has been a long legal battle.

I jsut had a look at the advertisement also. Yes, it states it is a prototype. It also says it has a Telwater trailer. I may be wrong here, I thought that Telwater has started manufacturing boats and motors in China (hence Mercury and Telwater parted ways).

My ASSUMPTION for the story behind it - Telwater have been trailing manufacture out of China with this boat. It may have been purchased flat pack in china and assembled in Australia, it may have been used for shipping trials fully built etc. As it is a prototype Telwater dont want to sell it themselves for warranty issues etc.

My guess putting what limited information I have togther.

Anyone recognise the shape? QLD builder?

Buying a prototype is a sure fire recipie for disaster normally with boats. It is the refinements over years and the beter construction later that make a good boat normally. Is it just being called a proto as it has no builders plate?

Be interenting to hear the story.

Why would you have both kill tank and live bait tanks unplumbed ?

Yeah I thought Chinese build too; looks like a trailcraft trailer to me though and a Jackman-style design with that high shearline.
I'd like to see whats under the floor........

If the rest of the underfloor construction resembles what is in the cabin, then it is a big pile of shit.Jim

And there it is in a nutshell me thinks. Telwater trailer, hope its not a welded construction. Won't be for long.:)

Hmm...5 bux says it has been to china and back, made to plan, inspected for quality contol, factory may or may not have got the contract. Would lurrrrv to see the welding. Are they better apprentice welders over there working on friday arfternoons ?
Who knows tho without seeing up close.

It would just be a Stacer/Quintrex Plate prototype. There was a few of these around without the pressed sides. Would ride like a POS and then fall apart - give that a wide berth

If its got no builders plate add another $1200 for a marine engineer to certify it .......thats if he dose?????

Not sure I agree with the whole idea that it has been around the world and back, either flat packed or assembled. If Telwater were looking to test the concept of Chinese supply of flat packs or assembly, surely they would have trialled it with a boat that even slightly resembles something they already produce???? And if it was in fact a Chinese trial, why has it taken 4 years to be sold off???

My guess is that they might have considered expanding the range of Stacers at some stage, built a prototype or 2, and for whatever reason (GFC?) shelved the idea in favour of resurrecting Yellowfin Boats.

Like everyone, I will be interested to hear some facts when they come to light. Surely there is a Telwater spy or 2 amongst us?

Scott.

It is a stacer hull, stacer transom.

There was a couple of boats like this, where they were trying differentthings i.e. the stacer Centre Cabin 669 (I think that was the size) which hadthe same hull shape and did become a production boat but never took off. Iwould say this was a hard top version of the cabin boat, simular to when theydid the big quintrex offshore models 670 (which were not successful).

Sometimes the market just isn’t big enough for some of the ideas you come upwith or even what the cost might come out too once you have built it for themarket.
