Nice yellowfin action fella's. Chased some schools today for about 1 1/2 hours for no result. Any tips? What lures were you using? Cheers from Spencer.

Cheers, fished again today in terrible condition for only a Striped Tuna boated, went well on the 10 lbs gear though.
We found the Tuna to be fussy and had to go down to 5 gram Rio lure with upgraded opposing single hooks.
We get as close as possible to the school, generally they feed into the wind or current. Cast over the school and pull your lure through as fast as possible but not to fast as to pull the lure out of the water.

No problem Mick

Nice one Leighton. Those striped tuna go for sure on light gear, yesterday i had to go to a 10g gillies. I lost 2 macks today and saw none caught, swell was a bit tricky also. Did you get my pm on nuggets?

Thanks for sharing Leighton. Nice choice of music there on the clip with a bit of JC to kick things off. Is it a GoPro underwater camera you are using?

Well done Leighton. Nice vid and nice little fins. Up on the Sunny Coast this Thirsday just gone we go onto a school of Mac Tuna and boated a bunch and dropped a heap too. Ours were all between 1-2 kg and were taking 20 and 40 gram metals but were keener on the 20 grams as they were closer in size to the little anchovies they were eating. We started with one of each lure and got one on the 20 gram but a few cats later and we realised that you 'could' get them on 40 gram lures which was helpful as it daved changing a lure and when its hot you really want to avoid changes etc and just go hard a!

Hey your boat interests me?? What size, model etc is it etc? Seems quite small for out there but you can tell that conditions are perfect. Also, how big were the yellowfin? Do you reckon they go harder than Mack Tuna at the same sizes.... the vid seems to indicate a very similar fight time on light gear.

Yes , Go Pro camera
Malby, at a guess the Tuna were between 3-5kg and about 60cm. We generally start on 25-40g lures and work out there feeding pattern. They were even still fussy with the 5g lures.
We get some decent Mack Tuna down here and they do go well. To me they are a similar fight, about 5 odd minutes on 10 lbs gear and they are knocked up. The Stripped Tuna I think went better than the YFT.
The boat is a 4.55 Sea Jay Territory, 50 Yam 4 Stroke. Been a great boat and more than capable in the rougher condition. I have had it well over 10km offshore

Was out there last weekend and this weekend, very fussy once a few boats start to target them. Find em early and find your own school that hasnt had a hundred slugs cast into it yet is probably the best advice.

For us they were only taking small slugs around 5-6cm profile, long leader of 20lb and a bit of a pause after a few quick turns seemed to get the best hook up rate for us......

Hardest thing is finding a small slug and being able to cast it far enough so not to spook the school.........
