Shane Stewart..no dates yet but contact bkliese@bigpond.com

Fraser Island comp is no longer and will not return ( not as far as Toyota is concerned )

There is a new Moreton Island comp being run around the beginning of September. It will be landbased only for the first year but sounds pretty good to me

From Nuggets Forum

"It is now official.
Moreton Island Adventures will be running a fishing competition next year on the Island.

The Moreton Island Fishing Classic will be held from 31 August to 3 September 2012
In its inaugural year, it will be a land based only event.
The competition will follow similar lines to the Fraser Island Fishing Expo - Prizes are big - start planning to be there."

Thanks for that Neil,

I'll definitely be signing up for that comp.....with the cancellation of the Fraser Comp, Straddie comp and Moreton Bay comp, hopefully it can succeed with a good following..

i'm hearing entry forms to come out early February ?

Was Toyota not making enough money from the comp or...........?

Lots of " rumours " for the closure.

The one with the most grunt was the Fishing Expo ( on a world heritage listed island ) did not fit into the " green " Toyota world.

It did cost a fair whack to run it and I am not completely sure that Toyota expected to make a profit from it. The idea was to attract motor vehicle buyers.

Having fished that comp, I would like to say it still is ( IMO ) the benchmark for recreational fishing comps in Qld, if not Australia. Remember, it was called the " Fraser Island Toyota Fishing Expo ".. and not a comp............persay'.

Maybe BCF and Great Wall could get together and have a crack.....:-? :-X ::)

Yeah too much bad publicity for Toyota. Those coloured "Green" targeted that comp in particular (opps, sorry Expo) and Toyota for their involvement.
You can see why they probably had no option but to pull their sponsorship.

I had heard a rumour that the Shane Stewart comp was no longer??

The green groups targeted the Fraser comp since day one but never had any luck as Toyota always made sure things were done by the book, the main reason for the comp finishing was Toyota pulled all the funding world wide for all of it's events due to a massive down turn, remember the Toyota Gympie Muster? They even pulled out of formula 1 racing in the same year.

As good as the comp was for the local community im glad that it is over, the reefs took an absolute raping, not just over the comp week but the weeks either side. The fishing over the last few years since the comp finished is noticeably better and continues to improve.

Any one else herd this about the Shane Stewart???
All they have to do is change it to another w/e on the calender year, as that w/e seems to attract sh*t weather every yr!
