View Full Version : HELP: upgrading from 30hp to 60hp, transom strengthing?

hey ive been thinking about upgrading my motor as with front and rear deck and batteries there a fair bit of weight and the 30 struggles alittle but the boats rated to a 40hp but is there anyway i can get the transom strenghted to hold a 60hp
any help would be great

what sort/brand/size.type of boat is it?

they can be re-rated, but sometimes, depending on the boat itself, it is not worth the drama, remeber you are trying to rate to a lot more HP than the max, (50% more) there is also the weight issue to contend with so to quote Finga what sort/brand/size.type?

the cheaper way would be to buy tohatsu 40hp 2 stroke & get it tuned to 50hp..

It's a 4.15 magnum and going from
A yamaha cylinder to a 65etec and nar pron won't insure it

your talking a 30hp 55kg engine upgrading to a 60hp etec that weighs 113kg thats double the transom weight good luck with that ::)

Someone has already named the Tohatsu 40hp sharing the same block as he 50hp. Yamaha is the same go, 40hp n 50hp same cc same weight. You'll get a lot more torque out of the larger block, going to a 60hp unless you can have it re-rated by a marine surveyor then you'll be taking a risk.
