Hello Fellas,
Decided to head out for a fish today as the weather has been pretty ordinary of late. I had my brother and Tim(Burley_GU) as crew. We left the Manly ramp at 5am and crossed the bar at Amity Point around 6am to find a relatively calm bar. We headed to the 33's and picked up a few squire in the first few drops before they shut down around 8am. We proceeded to go to Flat Rock to see if there were any pelagics or bait school around but it was pretty quiet, the bait schools had moved to off Point Lookout. Conditions were fair-good and improved dramatically once we went out to the Cathedrals. We managed to pick up the rest of our fish here with a final score of 9 which we were very happy with....2 Pearlies, 1 Parrot and 6 squire.
The current was running at 2-3knots at the Cathedrals which made fishing a little harder. There were also a few small dollies around the Waverider.
It may be worth a troll around the beacon installed by CSIRO between the 29's and 33's. I have a mark for it if anyone wants it.

Nice feed Marty. It sounds like the pelagics have not visited the area around the group/sevens this year. Hopefully they turn up soon

Horse,

I was at Straddy last week and there were lots of schools with birds and I was so keen to get out and chase them. Today I didnt find many around. I did however see a big schol of flying fish which I have never seen before. I m really looking forward to the Pelagics this year...if they turn up :(
There are reports of Yellow Fin Tuna but none I could see or find.

Hey Marty,we trolled from the pin bar out to the 50 fth for nothing.Found really good bait schools further north from say east of point look out about 15km south, they were schooled
from the top to 20mtrs down but nothing.Eventually we found bait in 70mtrs and scored a 10kg dollie.
Trolled through there again for its mate and we hooked up again.Other then that it was very quiet,no tuna or wahoo. We covered about 160km.
I had a mate up at hutchies today who trolled there, out to 250mtrs and then to 500mtrs and back to the trench for donuts.
I hope the fish play the game soon.
Cheers Mick.

I'm guessing your running a 2 stroke captain seaweed. Your figures are similar to mine though I never have much luck with squid so I stick to pillies and livies.

Nice work marty weather was awesome.

What depths do you mainly fish out of interest, spend all my time int he bay and was curious?

tight lines - mossy

p.s you think domino's would drop off to mud island, that's all I can think about now......

mostly 60-75m but I like getting out in the 100m stuff just my crew complain about sore arms!!! Its bloody nice out there with Straddy and Moreton as a backdrop. I normally come home hugging Flinders Beach just behind the breakers in crystal clear water....nice finish to a day out.

Hey Guys.

If you are thinking of trolling that CSIRO Buoy check the co-ords against a green zone map as I spoke to the CSIRO before Xmas about that buoy and its purpose and it was specifically put in a green zone, I have looked at it a couple of times and my zoning map on the GPS confirms it....

It may have moved in all the weather we have just had ....

Better to be safe that sorry,

I'll dig out the email from the CSIRO too... when I get a chance.

If the new 60 metre CSIRO buoy has current speed on line it would be really useful.

That CSIRO bouy is inside MNP16 by a few hundred meters. What a mongrel act on the part of CSIRO putting a honey trap like that out there

I have just received this from IMOS about the 60 metre mouring which measures, amongst other things, current velocity and temperature:

The data is available through a CSIRO website at the moment. In the next few weeks it will be available through the IMOS portal.

The NRS data for N Stradbroke Island are available in real time via the CSIRO TASMAN network http://www.csiro.au/tasman/sensorweb/

(surface, sub-surface 1, sub-surface 2)

latest values by clickng icons on the map

plots and datasets through the 'analysis' tab.

hey captain seawood
I think we seen you out around the cape on Tuesday in those notrociuos conditions
my boat is the black/white markham dominator - we ended going back out to brennans about 3.30pm in arvo and
got a feed of mixed bag reefies - sweeties, hussar & cod
Went out to hutchies wed (bit better cond. than Tuesday ) for a troll then out to the 70m line for nill - but found some nice ground
getting towards caloundra wide and bagged out on pearlies (couple of snodges too mate) and run into another boat who did the same
It was a good lift for mid arvo
