Pretty sure they offer the permits for sale around Feb each year and they sell out within the day. Must be in the designated area and anchored by 5pm and not allowed out till after 1am or something like that. Plenty of places out of the restricted zones that you could go and still see some of it. (I can't find anyting about nye so I might be thinking of riverfire?)

OK here's the deal.

There is restricted areas in the river

ALL info can be obtained from MSQ website... http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/

Then click on ' Notice to Mariners " up near the top of thet page.

http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Notices-to-Mariners.aspx

On the left hand side... click on " Brisbane ".

Then look down to about 8th notice.. 1249 T of 2011.

This gives you restricted areas, times and maps.

There are other notices that refer to the Fireworks and barge locations as well.

Enjoy.
