We were out fishing on the weekend east of Otter reef off Cardwell. The fishing was terrible, but this whale shark came along and made the trip for us. He hung around for about an hour, and Bob and I ended up getting in with him. A little scary in 50m of water but an awesome experience. He was so inquisitive that he came right up to the duck board for a pat on the nose, and I managed to get towed around a couple of times by grabbing his dorsal fin.

Hope you like the pics and the link to the video.

Absolutely awesome.
They are an amazing creature. We had 1 do something similar 2 years ago around this time of year. This was in central queensland
They rekon the markings on their head are like a fingerprint..all different.
See if you can tell if its the same critter

Thanks for the replies.

Graham, great photos. I never knew that the markings were unique to each animal. The markings on yours are quite a bit different to ours.

Trev, you nearly got it right but perhaps listen to the song a few more times ;)

Regards,
Dave.
