any feedback on the 38 Rivs?

curious how the combination of comfortable cruiser and game fishing boat goes?

Certainly ticks the boxes for comfortable, but will it tick the boxes for a practical game fishing boat as well?

late 80's early 90's model

cheers

To own a pre-90's riviera you have to either be really handy with the tools or have fairly deep pockets...
You can gamefish out of a tinny... what do you require in terms of 'gamefishing' ability? Heavy tackle or Light standup? bla bla

We are currently doing up a neglected 1985 44ft riv. lucky we have a fibreglasser and a deisel mechanic in the family otherwise wouldn't have been worth while... Can we comfortably cruise and gamefish out of it? Sure can..

Hey CD

Is that one of the one's you guys picked up from Cardwell after the cyclone? I heard a few blokes got a couple of reasonable buys. But like you said, need to what to do and have people in the family.

chop duster is correct, except for the "sterotype" of gamefishing boat, that being, big, fast, and expensive to run and maintain there is no reason you cannot gamefish out of anything, it is even done from the shore!

Your onto it Pazz... Few stories going around.
Trueblue, if your seriously thinking about one maybe post a few links to ones you are looking at for people to shed some light, there are plenty of pre-loved riv's around so I wouldn't be worried about people stealing your prize :-)

If your woundering what others might want to look out for when purchasing one of these boat thats a little harder to answer.

Jesus, that's a little on the large size. Once she's finished you'll have to post a photo up of before and after.

I'm pretty sure we played cricket in the same team years ago CD.

does anyone know if it is true that pre 1990 Riv 38's had a keel and can be a bit broachy in a following sea?

Noelm

no, don't know about that, BUT it does not make a lot of sense that a boat WITH a keel will broach, but one without does not.

can't fit a game chair to the 38 riv, who cares if they broach in a bad following sea then.....

The early 38 Riv was more of a Broadwater/Myall Lakes boat than a true offshore boat. They were maximised for accomodation, had no flare in the bows, and were wet as a shag.
Not a bad boat as such, but not an offshore "battlewagon" either.
No keel as far as I recall, and will have as much tendency to broach downhill as any other vessel of similar vintage, being mostly underpowered.
