It's a Barred Soapfish, often called, although misleadingly, a Yellow Emperor.

yep 100% yellow emperor. We have caught a few off Noosa over the years.

Can you eat them and if so what is the eating quality like?

As the name 'Soapfish' indicates, they are not that flash eating.

they have a slime coating over there body called grammisten wich is very toxic! "from grants guide". it doesnt say anything about the flesh being good or bad, or eating qualities and nothing on the net, but when you see toxic best not to test it :).

Thanks for the great info fellows.

I lip gripped him and removed the hook then back in the drink.....
It didn't look like a table fish also given it was pretty small.

I have heard that if you put one of them into a fish tank with other fish the toxin will kill the other fish in the the tank, not good :(
