had an early start sat leavin manly for a quick fish b4 the blow came in,left the marina around 4.30 and steamed across a near glassed out bay and through the bar reasonably flat and headed out to a mark i fished the week b4.had the lines in the water by 20 past 5.had plans of floatlining all day and this is the way we fished.used a 2 hook snelled rig with 5/0 mustard big gun hooks and my favorite float line sinker the 1ounce glow egg dayoo special .the 1st drift seen 3 squire hit the box.kept 2 in the livie tank as where around 38cm which we released unharmed a bit later due to upgrding them.over the next couple of drifts we bagged out with 12 squiry snapps and a lonesome tuskie.size ranging from low 40's to my pb snapp of 79cm.was a great day out with near glassed out conditions offshore.had a fair bit of current running out there.back in by 10.30.deffinatly getting some mojo now again offshore,720517205072052

Nice work on the snaps mate. So much for them not biting on a low barometer. I checked in the morning and it was down to 1005!! About what size does the 1oz egg sinker equate to in a ball sinker? No.6 or 7 maybe??

Thanks for the report. Mate i think i saw you head past us on Sat morn out there, we were a Hooker WRC drifting south of hutchies?

We didnt do too well, in fact that will be the third trip i havent caught any decent keepers in this area. Im fishing around 25m depth drifting and using flesh bait with bottom rigs, on the same spots as last year - where i did very well. Any advice about how to fish differently would be appreciated (apart from find new spots!) - deeper, anchored or floatlining??? Anyone finding this area hard to bottom fish of late??

We left too late and got totally slammed about half way across the bay by the westerly.

Cheers

the lump,
not sure on the size of sinker but would say around the 5 or 6 ball would be on the money
tim d,
not on plastics mate,i think the pretty colours of the plastics scare the fish away.hay tim u and scalem have got this mark so try your plastics and see if they pay off for ya.didn't last week..lol

wahoo73,
i woould give floatlining a go as of late i have hardly lost any baits on the bottom bashin rigs in the area where i got this lot from
cheers rosco

The 1 oz egg sinker is approx the same weight as a 4 ball.
A good while back 4 of us were floating flesh baits out the back of "Alexander" at the Hards using 4 ball sinkers but no bites even though the sounder showed we were over snapper. Put out a snood rig with a glow 1 oz egg sinker on top of the 2nd hook and pulled in a nice 3kg snapper. We all switched to glow sinkers and even glow jigheads and bagged out in 1 hour.

Cheers
