Hey guys,

Heading out tomorrow morning to chase some native bass. Was looking at google maps and looks like there are some decent spots in the fresh upstream of the weir. Just wanting to know if any people here have had success land based around this area, or do you need a yak to get to the good spots?

I am not after anybodys secret spots, just some general guidance to give us a decent chance.

Cheers

Hi Chiller

with the exception of the byalgum bridge just outside murwullumbah it is pretty difficult to get at the creek above the weir from the bank until you get up to uki and water is very shallow around the town area.Great yakking country but tough from bank.I have caught fish from the bank just under the clarrie hall dam wall which is reasonably easy to access from the first turnoff road into the dam.Small pools but can yield fish.Try from the bank on both sides of the creek at byalgum bridge.Plenty of fish there in the right conditions. There is a farmsaty style place up near the dam that gives good access to the creek if you stay there.Maybe an option.Could also ask some farm owners around the area.good luck.

Your main problem will be access to private property. Better off in a yak.

Try Chillingham area, a yak or canoe is worth investing in, but not essential.
You have gotta remember almost every stream and pool will hold bass....
Watch out for snakes this time of year, long trousers and carry a elastic bandage in case you get bit
good luck
