Bluefin fishing,NZ

Ski landed this Northern Bluefin on a MC WORKS 538XX Jigging rod with a Stella 20000SW,PE8 Varivas Avani SMP casting Braid 276KG,The largest Tuna caught on a spinning reel and jig rod known.
The rest of the guys landed fish using 130W stand up and chairs,I believe one guy had one on for 4 hours coming in at around 350kg from the skippers estimate,the boat was Enchanter,total trip time was 72 hours of hard out fishing,all I can say is AWESOME, Boat went out from Westport in the South Island to where the deepsea trawlers work (about 50 mile) using baits.
I have not done this sort of fishing ,would I like to ...oh yeaaaa!

That is freakin unreal. There is a download of a movie call Giant tuna something something. They caught fish over in NZ at Greysmouth I think.

Same deal out to where the trawlers are gettin the Hoki. Toss a bait near the net and hang on, for hours some times.

I am astonished of the quality of fish caught on that spinner, well done to your mate.

I have the dvd by Matt Watson, Ultimate Fishing Adventures where they go chase these brutes, definitely fish and experience of a lifetime! I would guess the Stella is due for new drag washers after that fight!!

On the dvd they use dead Hoki for bait and toss them at the back of the trawler nets as they are brought to the surface, these giants come up thick as the net is raised feeding on the hoki that have fallen through the trawl nets! You can download the dvd here if you know how to use torrents:

Beautiful colours on that fish. Does say a lot about the stella but what gets me is that yellowfin seem to put up much harder fights than their cousins. If it was a yellow at that size you would never see it.

True JJ,had a chat with a friend of mine who has done this a couple of times and he said that some of the fish were done in 20 min but others just wouldnt come in,couldnt find any particular reason why.(other than them being absolute hogs;D)
