Yes, when you caught it it would have given off grunts for some time, "Banded Grunter."

Best handled carefully because of the sharp gill cutters, quite angry little fellows especially for those who grab them by the head.

Would be a good idea to have a Fish ID section, wat do the mods rekon? Then Ausfish will have it's own up-to-date grants guide!

Bl%%dy good idea, There is an official description for all fish but can be a bit confusing.

The problem is that a lot of people grew up with a name for a sertain fish and firmly believe that is the only correct name.

As we get a little older and better educated we all might begin to agree about some names.

I called that little fish above a "Banded Grunter" which might suggest that it is a "Barred Grunter"

Not so. A "Barred Grunter" is a totally different fish with a min. size of 40 CM.
In retrospect I suggest that tunaticer is more correct, "Banded Trumpeter".

And yes anyone who has caught them, B T. will be able to verify the gill cutters and they are lethal.
