Braved the rain today with Dave. After a bonito and a maori cod for me and a bonito and a snapper for dave, my livie took off. The fish fought hard and Dave nailed the gaff shot. Lucky to land him as the last two hooks broke off, on the 80mono trace.
It went 10kg and 1.2 m. Conditions were pretty uncomfortable with the rain wind and swell.

I haven't caught one over 10kg for a few years, not that I have fished for them much

Nice kingy Chris. Pretty keen heading out today, a fish like that makes it all worthwhile though!

Cheers,
Nick.

Yeah Deano i think Dave is ready for the second go at gaffing ya cobe. Forgot to mention dave's mack tuna, gave him a big run on the light pillie outfit.

You're a fishing machine Carnster! and bloody keen to take on those conditions, but fortune favours the brave in your case.

Well done.

Did he taste like mush like most of the kings in that area?

Na mate, no parasite luckily, scored 2 that size last trip and they were great eating also. I always test a couple of fillets first.

Cooler water this time of the year makes a difference. We pick up a few big ones down there as bycatch during mackeral season. 99% of the time they taste terrible so I throw them back. Used to love eating them when I grew up down south but not so reliable up here. Good fun at that size though anything over 10kg in that shallow country is a good effort.
