It seems that the only way to escape the repeated badweather on weekends is to take a day off in the middle of the week. Since Dayoo has been helping me make my own powder coated jighead creations with glow in the dark colours, I have theorized that there must be a less expensive way to enjoy chasing king fish and amberjack with expensive knife jigs. Make no mistake, Knife jigs work well, I enjoy using them, but this desk jockey needed a lighter, less strenuous way of getting Kingfish to play ball. I can only pump knife jigs for 30mins at a time before taking a break. So my own Jigheads in 3 and 4oz bullet heads, ripped up the same way as knife jigs worked extreemly well!:o

So our sunshine state lined up a midweek public holiday with perfect weather. How good is that? Out through the south passage bar with Tim D as deckie and out to explore 80 meters of water by 7.15am when we arrived . It took a lot of searching what looked like a desert, and I had all but given up and was getting lazy with starting the boat again and again to check different areas that might hold fish. A few speckles on the sounder, then zoomed into the bottom and things got a little exciting with what appeared to be a school of fish. Tim gets slammed 1st,then Double hook-ups confirmed we were onto rat Kingies. Small by Kingie standards, but legal fish, we bagged out in around 90 mins.

The only disappointment was being sharked on the only ambo that came to play, but that’s fishing!

I lost 1 Jighead to a snag, used only one Zman plastic and a white Zoom 7”. That’s more like the type of trip I enjoy when costs of tackle are next to nothing!

Nice day out

The wind started to blow as predicted, so we bugged out for home around 1.30pm. What a top day!

Cheers for the trip today Brian

It was good to finally put your jigheads to the test and even better that i finally blooded my new egrell/saltiga combo. The new combo certainly shows the fish who's boss.

I measured my 2 when i got home, one was 70cm and the other was 80cm

Heres a couple of pics off my camera

cheers tim :)

Thanks MM. Didn't seem too bad at all. As we never anchor using plastics we were really being blown by the wind, so in the beginning 5-10 knots was no issue getting down to the bottom. In the afternoon we threw my cheapy sea anchor out which helped a little for a while.
