Hey guys,
I'm looking at doing a complete remodel on a 13" sea wasp, and am trying to find an old one lying around, the more rotten the better, as long as the hull is in one piece I'm interested. If anyone has one lying around or knows of one in the Brisbane area can you let me know?

Cheers All

Projects are fun, but have you checked out the price of a brand new Sea Wasp? Maybe ask Haines if they can build you one and leave the inside as a blank canvas if you want to customise it yourself? For about 10 grand on a trailer with an engine its hard to go past. There was an old one advertised on Ebay a while back for about 500 bucks but other than that most I have seen in the past 3 years or so have been 4 grand and up.

I was thinking the same thing. 10 grand sounds like a good deal for a brand new rig! Resale would have to be better than an old girl done up I would think?
I owned a Sea Wasp as a teenager and it was awesome! I think mine had a 35 Johno and would eat a 4.3m tinny for breakfast (ridewise).
Good luck either way.

Thanks guys for the input, this isn't just a resto job, i need to rebuilt it from the stringers up, looking at putting a yamie 4st 60 on the back, I might have a chat to haines and have a look at the new hull, not sure if it is the same shape as the old one. hoping to find one that's sitting in the backyard somewhere, not getting used, there are a couple for sale around 5g's but they are in too good a condition for what I'm going to do to it.

I may be wrong but I've seen a photo of one with an 80 on it. It was a speed demon in any case.

I loved my old seawasp. Wish I'd never got rid of it.

Yeah i've seen the one with the 80 on it:http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk53/fightin-whiting/pic33.jpgI I know of a 3.9m Dale (same hull as the sea wasp) that has a 60 on it, does over 52mph

Tons of those Dales getting around in the Burdekin. I've seen them with 70hp on the back. Go like a rocket. I had a tiller steer Yammie 40 two stroke on mine and it was quick enough. From what I've heard the Dales were built quite heavily compared to the old Seawasps. What's the hull weight of the new wasps?

The new sea wasp is about 220kg, the dales are definately a lot stronger then the sea wasps, the hull on the rebuild will be tightened up like the dales so it can handle running flat out through chop

I agree with Jeffo, try to buy a bare hull from the factory,

I'd actually try Cootacraft, they do a 13 foot little ram - pretty sure its close to a seawasp hull . http://cootacraft.com/products.php?prod_id=1

I've talked to Mark (the Russian) and he is very approachable and helpfull. I'm sure he'd do a bare hull.

Its a massive, messy, itchy noisey and dangerous Job (if you use a 4" cutting disc) to cut and grind everything out.

Good luck,

Matt

Thanks Matt,
I've had a look at the cootacraft, I'm pretty sure that they are built on a SW mould, I'll give them a call this week. Your project looks like it is taking shape nicely must be able to see the light at the end on the tunnel.

Thanks Mat,
Still looking, had a look at that one on boat point, if I can line up a trip down to Syd soon I'll have a look at. It has been up for a while, there was one on ebay last week that i was going to put a bid on but it got pulled down early, it had been half way refinished, not sure if that would make my job easier or harder.

I think a 60 will be more then enough for me, doing 85km/h in a 4m boat will be hair-raising to say the least.
