Hey fellas,

The old man picked up a steal in buying a swiftcraft seagull as per the pictures.

Now we need to work out what size motor to chase (Assuming my old 200hp sitting in the shed would flip it??? lol).

So if anyone knows of any specs on these, or what motors they have seen that would be much appreciated :)

Thanks

back in the day, most had 70 Johnsons on them, but a few had 115's too, I guess back then things were not so fast paced and we could all wait an extra 5 mins to get somewhere.

I might add, the was a time when if you did not have one, you might as well not go out, you could not catch fish in any other boat, there was an old fishing series featuring Ron calcut and the boat used was an old Seagull (I think)

They were around 16 feet from memory, and as NM said approx. 70 hp was pretty standard.
Very shallow deadrise and sharp forefoot as per normal with the old swifties, they will push along with relatively low HP.

Great little boat these, if all the timber in the floor is sound and you have a top runabout, used to see these with 70s and 85hp a lot in the old days , pretty solid build so if you are doing some bar work 90-115hp would be my pick, only my opinion of course as i cant remember max Hp spec.

Apparently its the 18ft version, I havent seen it yet though. There is a youtube link from the seller who video'd it. it looks like a solid boat.

Will aim for a nice cheap 115 to get him going I think. I had a 140 on a similar sized boat and it handled it alright...

But im guessing I can rule the 200 out?? :o :o lol.

I thought the 18' was called something else, but then we are talking years ago now, there was a thread on here some time back when someone rebuilt one. I know where there is a 25" 90HP Johnson for sale.

Ok so 125 max hp. 115hp would get her up and going quite nicely im guessing.

Cheers all

I have a 140 4 stroke, on my Swiftcraft Dominator and it fly's so 115 would be more than enough on the Seagull.

I had a 100HP Evinrude on a Swift Craft Falcon which was the same hull.

Was used as a ski boat as well as for fishing and it went very well. Find a 115HP 2 stroke approx 167kg Evinrude, for it (or say a 140 Suz 4 stroke for a bit less performance) and you will be happy.

Cheers

Hey Mustang5, as per Chimos suggestion, I've got 2x 97 mod 20" 115 Evirudes that I am selling (still on my 21 Seafarer). They still run very strongly and have stainless props. @ $3000 for both (or $2000 ea) you couldn't go wrong on this old girl. Flick me a pm if you are interested.:)
