I'm a Haines tragic... wanting to buy my dream boat - a V17L. I would like to know if different paint jobs or any other feature such as side decals or type of steering wheels can denote the hull age. I've noticed that the real old ones have very large spoke steering wheels. I live in Brisbane patiently waiting for a good hull, motor and trailer up to $15k. Cheers

Nice boats, I had the 17c with a 135 optimax on the rear. Sold it not too long ago, wish i hadn't now! All the best in your search!

Funny, I'm after one at the moment as well. There is a good one in Vic but a bit $$$$$$. The trouble is you need one with the hull work already being done. I read somewhere that the very early ones had a reverse chine and a planing strake although I could be wrong. HH565l should be on here soon and give us the lowdown. I think he dreams Haines Hunter.;D;D

There was a v17l in the small yard along side the BP in Shore st Cleveland.
The boat and other assorted crap disappeared a couple of weeks ago. But there has been a boat for sale sign put up. I'll take more notice tomorrow, see if its still there.

Just don't tell me missus mate :)
Unfortunately I cannot identify age throughaccessories or any other subtle cosmetic features. Most early HH boats will however have an ID tag somewhere that gives year of manufacture. On my 565l (1983 model) for example, the plate is located in the outboard splash well.

There is a V21C inboard for sale in Kilcoy if it is of any interest to you. About $12k but would probably drop for quick sale.
